The Pack That Fueled The Sub-2 Marathon Debut
On April 26th, 2026, Yomif Kejelcha ran 1:59:41 at the London Marathon, the second fastest debut marathon in history, and one of the first sub-two by an athlete who had never raced the distance before. This is the exact fueling kit his team used to get him there.
Check out the SANTAMADRE lineup for yourself and see what elite-level fueling feels like.
What's In The Pack
- 2x Reset Gel
- 1x Unusual Gel45 CHO
- 2x Unusual Fuel
- 1x Unusual Fuel with Caffeine
- 1x 750ml Bottle
Yomif's Fueling Plan
The plan was built around a single number: 580 grams of glycogen at the start line. At Kejelcha's bodyweight of 59.5 kg, the team estimated a carbohydrate burn rate of 290 grams per hour. Every product, every dosage, every feed point was calculated to close the gap between what his body would burn and what he could take in — with almost no margin for error.
The Race Day Protocol
Race morning, Kejelcha consumed a custom 750ml prototype drink between 6:15 and 7:30 AM. After warm-up, he took the Unusual Gel45 CHO with small sips of water. From there, the plan hit every 5 kilometers on course at 10 km:
-
Km 10:Â Reset Gel + 20 mlÂ
-
Km 15: 63 ml Unusual FuelÂ
-
Km 20:Â Gel 45 CAFÂ + 40 ml
-
Km 25: 62 ml Unusual Fuel
-
Km 30: Reset Gel + 20 ml
-
Km 35: 58 ml Unusual FuelÂ
One instruction from the team: don't rush it. Take the bottle, hold it, drink slowly, even if it takes a few minutes. Something we can all learn from.
He missed two pickups. Slipped at km 25. Missed the table at km 35. That cost him 19 grams of carbohydrates. At km 41, he ran out of energy and dropped from the lead. He still crossed the line in 1:59:41.Â
